Band Parent's Association

We invite you to join the SHS Band Parent Association whether you are a parent, a
grandparent, a family member, friend or alumnus. Dues are $20 per year per person and go towards
supporting the band year-round.
You are not obligated to join any committees by joining the Band Association. If you
have some time to give there are plenty of opportunities, big and small, to join in the fun. Print
out the membership application (found on the Documents page) and send in
the money with your student
Monthly board meetings are open to all. The
Board of the SHS BPA meets on the second Tuesday of every month. Please confirm the date and location
of the meeting on the band calendar.
We typically meet in the Band Room. You are always welcome.
Seminole High School's "2008 Dividend of the Year" is a
Band Parent! SHS administration selected Dr. Sonia Bhatia as the school's Dividend of the Year.
Dr. Bhatia logged in 1500 hours in one year alone! Some of her efforts last year included maintaining
the web site, editing the band newsletter, taking video, editing and producing the band DVDs, posting
band videos on YouTube, heading up the team of parents that took pictures at all of the band event
and many more unmentioned jobs. In addition, band students voted Dr. Bhatia "Most Loveable Band Parent"
at last year's banquet. Dr. Bhatia also received the Jefferson Award for Public Service, a national
honor.
As a group, members of the Band Parents Association usually log in over 5,000 hours every year. This
is a remarkable effort and it has helped SHS remain a 5-Star School. The Seminole Band Parents
Association continues to be the best organized parent group on campus! Three out of the last four
school Dividends of the Year have been band parents.

How to submit receipts for reimbursement:
If you are not a board member, please check with the President or President-Elect
before incurring any reimbursable expenses, unless you have been asked to buy something directly by
the band directors.
If you are a committee member, please check with your chair before incurring any
reimbursable expenses. The committee chair is responsible for managing the total budget of their event.
In the interest of protecting the sanity of our Band Parent Treasurers,
here are the procedures if you submit a
receipt for reimbursement or credit.
Template for Committee Chair: The purpose of this
document is to preserve all the experience and wisdom that you have gained this year, for the benefit of
next year's Committee Chair. It is designed to cover many different aspects of our various activities,
some of which will not be relevant to your committee. Please be as thorough as possible so that SHS
Band can continue to have successful events with the least amount of difficulty possible. You can download it

Dividend Registration The
SCPS Dividend website
is where you register as a volunteer for the school year. Registration is required every year. We will
receive a list of registered Dividends, and can only select volunteers from that list. This is for the
safety of our students. Parents, grandparents, aunts, siblings - anyone who plans to help during the school
year is welcome to register. These volunteer hours are needed for the school's 5-Star School status.
