Percussion Concert

Funairi Concert

In March we proudly welcomed Funairi High School from Hiroshima, Japan. It was our privilege to provide host families for the 41 visiting students and offer them a taste of American hospitality. Our joint friendship concert was spectacular, and we look forward to a continued relationship with our friends from the City of Peace.

The school is located in Hiroshima, Japan. In Japan, band is not a formal class, it is a club. The Japanese students are only allowed to be in one club. Most boys end up in baseball as their club, so out of the 41 students, only 5 will be boys.

DVDs of the Funairi concert are available for sale. Ask anyone who was here during their visit 2 years ago - the concert is unforgettable - the musicianship, the showmanship, the smiles and the beauty. You WILL want to see this concert again!

Journey Thru Jazz: See the finale of Journey Thru Jazz! The entire finale of this amazing concert is now posted on ShutterFly. So much talent that it fills THREE segments! Whether you attended the concert or wish you had, check out our Jazz Chiefs and the professionals.

The entire concert, including this finale is now available on DVD. An audio CD of high-quality mastered tracks is also available at a discounted package price. All funds benefit the SHS Band. Deadline for orders is next Monday, March 8th, send payment in with your student. Order form.

Pictures of your band student: Pictures of your band student! What a wonderful gift for the grandparents or your coffee table. Complete the order form and drop it and your payment in the photo committee box in the band office. Once we receive your order and payment, we will fill your order. The pictures will be sent home with your child. If this is a present for your child, please include a note with your order form so that we may contact you directly when your order is ready to be picked up. Please note that there are two order forms per sheet in case you have more than one child. You only need to complete one of the two forms. Blank forms will be in the band room on the table outside the band office as well. Any questions, please email the committee at photo@seminolehsband.org.

Make Money for your Trip Account -- any trip! We have an exciting announcement! Effective immediately, we are making it possible for you to earn money for your kids' trip account. This is NOT just for London, but can be applied to any band trip we take. At this time, it is effective for three things:

1. Snow Cone work after school -- every parent who works snow cones after school will earn $10 that will be put into their student's trip account. This will be retroactive -- so all you parents who have worked so hard will be rewarded!
2. UCF events -- every parent (and student) who works a UCF event will earn $25 per worker, again put into the student's trip account.
3. Cookbooks -- our cookbooks are available. Every cookbook sold by a student (or their parents, grandparents, etc.), will earn $10 into the student's trip account. Student order forms are available here.

We are trying to get more things lined up to add to these three opportunities. So, parents, if you want to start putting money into the trip accounts, sign up!

Please e-mail Aurora if you are available to work the Snow Cone machine after school (I'm told it's actually pretty fun!). The UCF events will be sent out as they come out, so watch for them in your e-mail!

LONDON Trip:

As most of you know, the Seminole High School Band has been invited to march in the Lord Mayor's Silver Jubilee Parade in London, England, on New Year's Day, 2011. What an incredible opportunity!

The Band Parent Association is committed to doing whatever it takes to raise enough money so that everyone can make this trip. However, it will take your leap of faith right now. The week-long trip will begin right after Christmas and end just after New Year's Day. The cost per person is just under $3,000.00 and includes air fare, two meals a day, hotels, day tours, a show in London, and much, much more. You can look at the brochure at www.Londonparade.co.uk.

To date, almost 70 students have committed to going on this trip. We also have 6 parents committed to chaperone.
