A lot of information was conveyed by Mr. Malcolm and Ms. Newhouse during the annual incoming parents and band members meeting tonight. Following is a summary of important dates and information that were provided. Do you know an incoming parent or student who did not attend? Please pass this information along!

In addition, we have 2 jazz bands, and an orchestra. There are also AP and IB level music courses.
Common Fears and Concerns
If I am in a magnet program, will I be able to do this?
Can I be in a sport and also band?
Can I handle the workload of IB and also band?
Can I be in health academy and also band?
The answer to all of these questions is yes! If you would like to talk to a student or a band parent who can speak to your concerns please contact the band directors.

“Hopoewaw” Day is Saturday July 26 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Hopoewaw means little child, and is the term we use for incoming band students, whether freshmen or later.
Monday July 28 – Friday August 1 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
It it mandatory that all students attend band camp.
Marching Season is August 15 – November 9 (not including playoffs)
Marching Rehearsals: Wednesdays 1:45-5:00 PM and Thursdays 2:45 PM-5:00 PM
Friday Night Meet at 4:45 PM return at 11 PM
Conflict with Sports or Other Events
Rule is: Even split of time. Miss as much of band as you do the other group

2014-15 Band fees for new members will be $300.00 ($225 + initial $75 for incoming students) which covers:
- Rental of marching (if applied)
- Uniform cleanings
- Uniform repairs and alterations
- Entrance fee for All-State Aud, S & E’s, Marching and Concert Fest
- Marching Band Shoes
- Flip Folder
- Band T-shirt
- Band Camp clinicians
- Bus costs (except the band trips)
- Awards given at Band Banquet (for students)
Payments must be worked out the first week of school
Instrument rental = $50 per semester. Make checks payable to SHS Band
Students will have to purchase their own concert apparel/uniforms

- 2011-12 Savannah/Atlanta, and also hosted Japanese band
- 2012-13 Washington DC & Jazz Chiefs went to Japan
- 2013-14 Hosted Japanese band
- 2014-15 Hawaii – Pearl Harbor Performance/Parade

Student account fundraisers – raise money to apply to trips, your yearly band fees
Schedule to take band for 4 years. You should not be thinking of trying band for 1 year, then moving on to other programs every year.
